Trenton is his own person. I love this about him! I mean it can be exhausting on some issues, but overall this quality is fabulous!

Not long ago I was telling Trenton about "stranger danger". He is so friendly and outgoing I thought it was necessary. So as I am wrapping up my little stranger talk I could see Trenton had something to say. He looked at me so seriously and said, "Mom, there are no strangers. You just have not met them yet and become their friends." His wisdom struck me. I thought for some time and then told him he was right. But to never, never, ever leave with someone that mommy doesn't know. He seemed to think this was a better rule than the stranger-danger approach I first took. Funny I happened upon this Yeats quote today. And even funnier my four year old has the same idea. :) I hope he keeps his "insight" as he ages.

Vacation!

I love vacation. Mainly, for a new experience, but I also love getting away from the day to day! I can't say that this vacation was...restful...but it was so much fun! We went to my sisters boyfriends college graduation in Vegas and a mini-side trip to Disneyland.

Disneyland! I love Disneyland. I didn't realize how much! But I really do love it. Trenton thought it was grand! So much to look at, to do, people to meet! He loved it! Trenton was tall enough for the roller coasters and was all about it! He is such a brave boy. :) He was star-struck when he met Mickey, excited to meet Winnie the Pooh and friends, and ecstatic to meet Mr. Incredible. It was great fun. Stories

Trenton just loves it when I make up stories. And I love that he is silently listening, his little ears hanging on every word that I speak. I can't say these stories are amazing, or world changing, but he does love them. And the best part is making him the star character. I mean...who doesn't want to be the star of the story? And as we ramble along the plot line I let Trenton throw in some idea's about where the story goes. Current theme: Trenton and his dog Pluto (who is very much like Kelso). I sometimes find myself at night, exhausted and eager to tuck him in quickly, and get on to my own list of things. But every time I seize the opportunity I am truly thankful for all the precious moments I have been given. (I hope to remember that the next time I ask him to do something and he looks at me and defiantly and says no). Ah...all the joys of parenting.

Memories

Parenting. Well...it's not for the weak of mind, will or heart. It will stretch you, hurt you, make you laugh, cry, ache and feel love. And my little one is only four.

I think there are lots of models, wrong ones, right ones, in between ones. And we need all the models to get all the different types of people that make the world go round. Lately I've been having all these memories of my own childhood. They are all soft and sweet and full of wonder. Wonder. Wonder. I loved that sense of wonder. I see that sense of wonder in my own child, and I can't stop the train of "destruction", but at the same time I want to fuel his fire of wonder. So that he will not be dismayed by the corrupt world around him, but instead be inspired, energized and wonderous enough to create goodness for himself and all those around him.

So, tomorrow, we will go to a park, and fly paper airplanes (in which I will no doubt make awesome ones in a four year olds eyes, but not perhaps in anyone other persons eyes). I think after that we shall go for a hike and listen for all the different birds and make up names for them (this will have to be another day, because, alas, I have to work and live in "reality"). I hope that in that not only will Trenton's sense of wonder be fueled, but that I may to rediscover the sense of wonder I knew I once had.

Trenton is "mowing the lawn". I do hope, that you all, can use your imaginations here. Can't you see it?

I remember being a kid and make believing I was doing adult things. Oh, the days of fairy tales and playing house. They pass by so slowly as a kid, but then one day it seems like you wake up and find that you are no longer a kid and fairy tales are simply... tales. When I think about that I just want to let Trenton be a little kid just a day longer than I remember. I know I cannot change the course of life and growing up, but the days of make believe really are where it's at. I guess as adults we do it too...it's just called dreaming. I hope Trenton grows up to be a dreamer. To dream big and never be discouraged- I hope that he chases his dreams, and maybe even makes believe with his kids that a dolly is a lawn mower.

As tradition goes we all went canoeing at Sparks Lake. I have to say, this is one of my favorite traditions! I love, love, love canoeing! I was not all that great with my camera....I didn't even get on picture of anyone unless Trenton was in the frame. Next year I vow to be better! Life is sweet

Life is sweet. Sometimes bittersweet, but really it is mostly sweet. I just have to take a second look. Three year old boys really know how to take the adult perspective and flip-flop it upside down. Trenton shows me the sweetness of life daily.

I am blessed. Beyond what I deserve. I have amazing family all around me, friends who would do anything for me, the most wonderful boy, a God who loves me-despite me- and privileges beyond. I can't say that this life isn't filled with challenges, but if I have these things I know that my life is sweet. Each sunrise, sunset, rainy day, helping hand, encouraging word, hug, kiss, snuggle from the dog, laugh with friends, good food with family, and of course crazy dance around the house with my three year old (like no one is watching) reminds me that this life is good. I hope tomorrow I am reminded again...and again, and again.

My Mom and Trenton and I went to Seattle the weekend before Thanksgiving to visit Tuesday in her new home. Trenton was really excited. He was pretty great for the whole drive too! :) However, he insisted that it was not Seattle, but he was going to see attle and he was excited to see it.

Tuesday's apartment is in downtown Seattle and is really amazing! We went to the children's museum via the monorail (Trenton's favorite), ate at Serious Pie (best pizza ever), got lost in IKEA (Trenton thought this store was a big play house), and had some serious fun at Pikes Market (Trenton thought the fish were cool and would not touch the big, big spider "A.K.A crab"). And I even got a night out with Karina, Andria (Karina's friend from school) and Tuesday while my mom watched Trenton. Those are the "highlights" of the trip. Here are a few pictures! So my mom and I decided to go for a hike. She said Paulina Lake loop was a good one for kids. So we packed up and made the drive. It was so beautiful and I plan to do it again! The whole loop was 7 1/2 miles. Trenton literally hiked 3 of the miles. We had his backpack he could sit in, but he wanted to walk. He was such a trooper. The weather was perfect-absolutely amazing for mid-September. We sang silly songs for the last mile and ate burgers to finish off the day! Honestly, who could have asked for a better day.

The freezing rain and frozen toes confirm it. Summer is gone for the year. And as with every year I find myself thinking we need pumpkin treats around the house. I've made Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies and a pumpkin pie so far. And as I'm sitting here sipping my hot tea I am wishing for pumpkin muffins. Hmmm...seriously fall.
So let's see what has happened since the last post, or should I says posts?! :)
We went camping! It was fun and Trenton was soo dirty! We also went to a good friends wedding in Portland and I had a mini-reunion with good friends. It makes me wish they would all hurry up and move to Bend. But perhaps that is not the grand plan so I'm just trying to be happy for the good things! Like the fact they are my friends.
Trenton is growing so much! He is really trying to figure out how to be the boss, but is still such a joy. I recently asked him why he wasn't listening and his reply was, "I'm not, because... I'm not". I had to look the other way because I couldn't help but smile. Simple truths.
Poor guy also had a mishap. He jumped on the dog- even though it is against the rules- and as Kelso got up to walk away from him (I would too) he started screaming his head off. So I quickly picked him and took a look. Sure enough he has managed to pull one of his front lower teeth forward. I am still mystified as to how it happened. But he did. We saw the dentist and not much can be done. Good thing it's a baby tooth. He is on the mend- and still my happy boy.

Where has all that time gone...

Wow, I have not updated this blog since April. I am pretty sure a lot has happened since... Where has all that time gone to?

Let's see. Since April we have been busy.

Trenton made his first trip to the Portland zoo. We've been up to Lake Billy Chinook, canoeing at Sparks, hiking here and there, enjoying fireworks (for the first time for Trenton). Oh the list could go on and on.

Trenton is working on potty training and talking non-stop about everything everyday. He loves to drive his trucks, cars, trains, plans and helicopters. He also loves reading!

Mexico

This is a bit overdue, but I'm finally getting to it. Trenton is, at the moment, happily playing with all of his cars in the window sill. One of his favorite activities.

Mexico was so much fun! Trenton and I were the only ones that went. Aaron could not get the time off due to seniority, but encouraged us to go anyways. I was hesitant, but so thankful we went. I had so much fun with my mom, Tuesday & Julian, Autumn, the Fagens and the Everts. It was really to much fun!

Trenton did amazing on the airplane journey (both ways)! He wanted his blanket and my hand during all take off and landings. But overall he was happy and well behaved on every flight. I was so thankful for all the help I got from family, travellers and the flight attendants.

Once we got to Mexico it was really all about relaxation. Trenton and I played in the pool every morning until lunch and nap time. Then it was usually a three hour nap time- for Trenton. Then some more pool time. Really that was the main thing we did. It was great. No phones, hardly any computer, no TV, just good ole' times with the family.

I really wish life was that way all the time!

Saturday Morning

I love Saturday mornings. There is no rush, no agenda, just getting up and having some time with my boy(s); meaning Trenton, Kelso and Tiger. While the lazy Saturday mornings of sleeping until I wake are gone, they have been replaced with adventures of Trenton. This morning he requested his second all-time favorite meal of oatmeal. The kid can eat oatmeal like none other (literally as much as I can stomach!). First off I must admit I give him instant oatmeal, but I have all sorts of justification for this. One, he eats organic instant oatmeal, and two, he only gets half a pack of the "flavored" kind mixed in with half a pack of Oats & Flax instant oatmeal. And, last but not least, I feel that I'm instilling a healthy option for adulthood that may be something he will actually prepare for himself. Yes, I know why am I justifying to myself...bat at least it makes me feel better about not making it from scratch.

So on this lovely Saturday morning, which I am still thoroughly enjoying, Trenton requested oatmeal with "ray-rays" (code for raisins). So I prepared a bowl of oatmeal with raisins for Trenton and a bowl of oatmeal without raisins for myself. Trenton began his adventure in eating. I must say I was so disappointed my camera was upstairs. He insisted on taking bigger bites than I myself would take, okay...even bigger bites than most grown men would take. They were huge bites. His spoon was so full he had to strain to get his mouth open wide enough. Then upon failing to get the whole bit in his mouth he would cry out in objection to the spillage on his lap, hand and mouth. He handed me his napkin and with a mouth filled to the max asked me, in some sort of gibberish, to clean him up. This proceeded through the whole bowl of oatmeal. I tried to show him smaller bits, but much like his parents, he decided he knew best.

I love Saturday mornings. Then to make my day even better, I went to the cupboard to get my cup for coffee and to my happiness my favoritest (I know it is not a real word, but I'm using it anyway) of 3 favorite mugs was waiting for me.

Helicopter!

Trenton was lucky enough to get to go tour the Helicopter. He said "Cool" and "Helicopter" over and over; he was pretty amazed. Trenton was thanking his Nanny for arranging it all!

He was afraid at first. I think it was the size of the helicopter compared to what he sees in the sky and plays with at home. But after a little encouragement he decided it was okay to touch it. But going inside the helicopter was another story. First nanny got in, then daddy got in, but no way was Trenton going to set one limb inside that strange machine. Finally, after mommy got in, Trenton decided it wasn't so scary. Once he was in he was all about jumping out the side into anyone and every ones arms. I was laughing...he was so afraid to go in, but had no fear about jumping out. Here are a few pictures of our adventure.

P.S. I must admit...it was pretty "cool"! I have never seen the inside of a helicopter.

New Hair

So, a blog about me and my hair (I know...deep). I've decided that June of 2008- June of 2009 is all about hair. I have changed my hair more times in this span of time than in any other time of my life. Hmm... I just realized this. This realization causes me to ponder what really is going on (maybe I'm just finally cutting loose). The newest hair cut was inspired by a friend saying I looked older. This is not the thing to say to me people, really. I have age issues. I am trying to embrace wisdom, but this age thing just keeps sneaking up on me. Well, I promptly decided I needed bangs after being called old. I have not had bangs since I was in elementary school. So in my subconscious I concluded that elementary school equaled youth, or something like that. Alright, there you have it. My reason for getting bangs. Please don't laugh. :) Here is a picture of the new cut (for those of you who love my curly hair, don't worry, it is still curly)! :)

Birthday Fun

Trenton is two! What fun he had. We celebrated on his real birthday, on Monday, and had a little party for him on Saturday. He even helped decorate his cupcakes on his real birthday (with Megan's help). It was fun! Trenton loved blowing out the candle, eating cake and opening presents! When I asked him if he was ready to open his presents he said "Oh yeah!". It was pretty cute. He only plays with his new toys and is so thankful for all the birthday wishes!

I had my friend Amanda take some pictures of Trenton in the fall. We finally connected (it is so hard living so far away!) and here they are! We went to Shevlin Park and Trenton ran, ran, ran. He wouldn't sit still for anything. After I looked at them I was amazed at how much he has grown since the fall. His face is so much more "little boy" and less baby! Trenton's little friend who is his age came over the other day. They had so much fun reading and playing cars. They even wrestled in the tent. I kept thinking they might inflict pain on each other, but all was well. It was funny and I was so amazed at how fast my little boy is growing up.

Well sorry folks. I am aparently gifted in deleted things. I was trying to clean up my blog and had two sites for some reason. Instead of deleteing the one I have never used, I deleted the one with all my blogs from 2008. So, I guess I literally am starting anew on the blog. Silly me!!! If I was really amazing maybe I could find it, but I'm not- so new beginning- here I come!

Happy New Year! Wow, 2009. I really am amazed at how fast time goes. It seems to just get faster and faster. If I could I would simply slow it down just a bit. Before I even know it Trenton will not be a toddler anymore; much like how I woke up one day and looked at my sweet baby boy only to realize he was my sweet toddler). Time slow down! Well, that being said we started our new year off with amazing steps! Trenton woke up today telling me stories! He put two words together in a row- go now and mommy bye-bye. I am proud and excited for all the communicating he is doing! In addition to talking more, Trenton asked to sit on the potty today! I am thrilled. He had already "done his business" in his diaper, but he at least is linking the two together. When he woke up later that day he asked again! He even wore a Pull up instead of a diaper. He was so excited to step into "underwear".
The picture I put up was his first picture of 2009. He was eating oatmeal- his favorite food- for breakfast. Thought it was cute and I would share it!
I am excited for a new year and hope that I can be more open to change and seeing what it is that God has for me. Aaron has made a New Year's resolution to be more cardio-fit. Trenton is the best, because he is young and still on the innocent side, so he has no new years resolution, only to live in the moment.
